The rings to which the lozenge-like elements connect on giulio iacchetti’s tropico are inspired by the earth’s parallels in this new foscarini project, which explores modularity to emphasize the product’s personality. the development of the model began with a single element, which is not only an aesthetic and formal component, but also has a structural function. in fact, it is the diffuser that supports the weight of the lamp, which is shared amongst each of the single elements. the simple but highly characterised lozenge element is made of thermoplastic resin that gives an extraordinary material sensation. although this is a very rational industrial piece, it offers an overall result that is warm and pleasant, thanks to its two finishes and the manual assembly whose natural irregularity gives an almost craftsman-like, changeable pattern. Tropico’s modularity allows endless combinations: by simply altering the diameter, the succession of rings or the layout and the number of single elements it is possible to obtain different forms and dimensions. despite of that it comes in four standard versions – sphera, vertical, bell and ellipse – which highlight its wide possibilities for use.
